New reports show that the prime minister has stepped in to try his hand at resolving the British Airways strike. This news comes out as British Airways made its way to High Court to seek a last minute injunction. The prime minister, Gordon Brown, said that he spoke to the Transport Minister, Lord Adonis, earlier this week and pledged that the government would do everything that it can to resolve this dispute. However, there is little time left for the government to do anything since the strike is due to start on December 22nd – just next Tuesday.

Gordon Brown went on to say that he was very worried about the prospect of the 12 day walkout and how bad it was likely to affect peoples’ holiday travel plans. Brown said he is very worried about this, and that is why he has talked to Andrew Adonis on the matter. They both agreed that the different sides in the dispute have got to look outwards and not inwards. They have got to think of the passengers that they serve and not just their own goals. They have to think about the the future of their company as well.

British Airways went to High Court earlier this week in an attempt to halt the strike. However, observers believe that, even if it is successful, the crew will simply not turn up for work. British Airways chief executive, Willie Walsh, said that they are absolutely determined to do whatever they can to protect their customers from this appalling and unjustified decision that the union has made.
