Reports have come out that Queen Elizabeth II’s spending could be out of control. These reports have gone on to say that the Queen may actually be costing British taxpayers almost $1.14 each. This may not seem like a lot until the reports go on to say that the royal family took in almost $68.6 million this year. This is an increase of almost $2.84 million from the previous year.

These public funds are used to pay for the Queen’s travel expenses. However, beyond the travel expenses of the Queen, these funds are also used for the operation and staffing of her homes. This includes Buckingham Palace.

However, most people point out that its the travel costs that have gone way up and could be a big reason for the huge increase in funds taken in by the royal family. In fact, one source says that the royal family needed to charter commercial aircrafts for overseas visits. The Queen herself visited Slovenia and Slovakia last year. Not only that, but Prince Charles has toured Japan and Indonesia.

Some say that the cost to run some of the things associated with the royal family is out of hand. This includes the $661,300 needed to relaunch the royal family website.

Graham Smith, the campaign manger for Republic, an anti-monarchy group, said that it’s very apparent that there is no regard for public finances at all. They went on to say that there is no reason why the queen is not given a salary and a few million for her staff.

Elizabeth gets almost $13.09 million of public money for basics. However, she also uses $9.9 million from a reserve fund. If this keeps up, reports say the reserve fund could be empty by 2012.
