It now seems that Ryanair has just recently announced changes to its card polices. These changes will affect passengers who use their cards to book a flight with Ryanair. As of December 1st, users of the Mastercard Prepaid card will not be charged the £5 per person administration charge.
Despite this good news, there are some bad changes coming as well. Apparently people who like to pay with Visa Electron cards will be faced with a charge for the first time starting January 1st. However, experts point out that this new charge does not come without just cause. Apparently the move was prompted by the fact that both Travelex and Santander are working on phasing out the Visa Electron payment system.
Stephen McNamara from Ryanair said that Mastercard Prepaid cards are widely available across Europe from financial institutions and online. Thus, these are not cards that will be hard to get.
Passengers that pay with Visa Electron are not going to be charged transaction fees by all airlines. In fact, Aer Lingus, Flybe, EasyJet, and bmibaby are a few of the airlines that will not be charging a fee to use the Visa Electron card. However, several airlines charge a flat fee transaction charge per person, per flight when a customer pays with a debit or credit card.
Reports show that consumer groups have been lobbying airlines to increase their advertised headline prices to include the charge for making the payment if there is not a free option available. According to the rules of the Advertising Standards Authority, advertisements that show a price have to include all non optional charges in the ad.
