Ryanair is now set to impose a new increase on their luggage charges. However, this is not just a small fee, as this new increase could be as high as 50 percent for taking luggage onto their aircraft. Overall, this could cost some holidaymakers as much as £80 for just a family of four.
The new rise in luggage charges, which is set to be enforced come October, comes on top of a long list of other additional levies imposed by Ryanair. This includes the £5 to check in online and a £40 fee for printing out a boarding pass at the airport. Of course, in light of the new increase in fees for checking in bags, both the internet cost and airport cost will go up. For people looking to check in their bags online, they will see an increase in fees between £10 to £15. For people who check in their bags at the airport, they will see an increase of £20 to £30.
Ryanair did come out and say that its passengers will be able to carry up to two bags of 33lbs each before they run into the excess baggage charges, which charge £15 a kilogram. The Air Transport Users Council has said that it is becoming very hard for people to come across truly cheap air travel, as no frill airlines are starting to add on too many fees.
However, Ryanair was very quick to defend their new charge by saying that this will allow them to keep airline fares low. They went on to note that these baggage fees are all avoidable for passengers who choose to travel with only carry on luggage. This means that about 70 percent of Ryanair customers will be affected by these changes. This suggests that most of Ryanair’s customers travel with just carry on bags.
