Minister Tony Killeen told that budget airline Ryanair had recently withdrawn its earlier decision to stop its flight services from Shannon to Liverpool and Edinburg. He said that Ryanair summer flights will continue to operate every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Minister Killeen also confirmed Ryanair’s continued services to London Gatwick, Malaga, London Stansfed, Palma, Nantes, Wroclaw, Tenerife and Paris Beauvais until the end of summer 2010.

Killeen said that the growth of Shannon Airport depends on the services currently offered. He emphasized that Ryanair’s recent decision complements the UK’s domestic and transatlantic services currently being provided by Aer Lingus and Continental Airlines.

On the other hand, Ryanair informed that Shannon was one of its two bases that are not profitable. The low cost carrier had experienced decrease in passenger traffic in Shannon Airport from 1.9 million down to 600,000.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador Dan Rooney will later inaugurate the expanded US pre-clearance facilities recently placed in Shannon airport. The installed device in Shannon Airport is the first in the world that gives an airport the capability to clear private jets for US customs and immigration. The move is expected to bring positive impression to the airport and the region as a whole.
