It now appears that bmi will be axing five routes and cutting 600 more jobs as a result of unprecedented market conditions. This is a problem that seems to be affecting airlines all over the world, not just bmi. In fact, British Airways and Japan Airlines, among others, have all been suffering from weak market conditions.
bmi, which is the UK’s second largest carrier, will be dropping its flights to Tel Aviv, Kiev, Aleppo, Amsterdam, and Brussels as of January 9th. The airline noted that it will concentrate instead on routes serving oil, energy, and emerging markets.
On top of these route [...]

The airline known as British Midland Airways, better known as Bmi, has just recently countered speculations that it will not be able to continue operations beyond the current year. Reports went on to say that the company would not be able to meet its financial commitments. However, Bmi had denied this rumor and said that it would be able to meet its commitments and had adequate resources.
Many sources have said that, due to the combination of the economic downturn, the problems with Heathrow Terminal 5 and rising fuel costs, the airline has struggled to continue operations. However, Bmi shot back [...]

It will come as no shock to most people to hear that airlines right now are in a fight to stay alive. This is due to the current recession, rising fuel prices and the swine flu outbreak. During a time when airlines are at a low point, it seems that the government is ready to tack on more insults to injury by way of increased compensation to passengers who lose their baggage.
Right now British Airways and Bmi, who just so happen to be two of the worst airlines in Europe when it comes to losing luggage, are lobbying against the [...]

It now appears that Bmi has formed a new codeshare agreement with Continental Airlines. This new deal allows Bmi to sell tickets to United States destinations served by Continental Airlines from five UK airports. This new agreement comes just after Continental Airlines became a member of the Star Alliance.
This new deal allows Bmi to sell tickets to Newark Liberty International Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport from Heathrow, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, and Brussels. Continental Airlines will be able to sell tickets on Bmi services connecting through the same set of UK airports. However, Continental Airlines will also have access [...]

It now seems that Flybe, a well known carrier, has now entered the race to buy up BMI from Lufthansa. It seems that Flybe may be trying to make a new joint bid with British Airways. As of right now, it is understood that Flybe has registered its interest in trying to buy BMI, but the possibility of British Airways and Flybe making a joint bid has still yet to be talked about.
If Flybe is able to make a successful bid, this should avoid problems with the competition watchdogs. At the same time, it would also stop other people from [...]

New talks have started dealing with British Airways wishing to buy out the second largest carrier at Heathrow Airport, BMI. The British Airways chairman, Martin Broughton, has been in talks in Germany over the weekend with Lufthansa. Right now Lufthansa is the current owner of BMI. British Airways has, of course, chosen not to comment on these speculations.
Other reports also show that other airlines are interested in buying BMI from Lufthansa as well. These rumors of British Airways wanting to takeover BMI for £1 billion were started way back in 2007. This rumor also got started after the BMI executive [...]

bmi, the second biggest carrier operating at the Heathrow airport, is doing away with a major part of its domestic network for the United Kingdom, as well as cutting some of its capacity for continental Europe due to an increase in losses. The airline is announcing that they are to cut 2 mainline operations between Leeds Bradford and Heathrow and Durham Tees Valley and Heathrow, which totals 7 departures every day. These cuts are in addition to the carrier’s announcement earlier about closing its twice a day service between Jersey and Heathrow.
bmi will also cut back the number [...]

bmi pilots are balloting on a no confidence motion for Nigel Turner, the Chief Executive of the airline, after discussions over pay. In a statement, the British Airlines Pilots’ Association said that they are considering taking legal action after bmi failed to commit to the deal for raising salaries. They are also accusing the carrier of raiding about 400 pilots’ bank accounts in order to take back previously agreed raises in their pay for last month, which was an average £250.
Jim McAuslan, the General Secretary of the British Airlines Pilots’ Association, said that this situation is serious. [...]

Virgin Atlantic and bmi have agreed to expand their codeshare deal on the domestic flights of bmi to Amman, Tel Aviv, Beirut, and Tehran effective immediately. Both of the carriers already hold a codeshare agreement on the services to and from Brussels, Venice, Amsterdam, Palma, Hanover, and Dublin from the London Heathrow Airport, which link to the long-haul flights of Virgin Atlantic from the airport. The long-haul flights include those from Boston, Newark, Los Angeles, and the JFK Airport in New York, which are all North American cities.
Martyn Bridger, the Commercial Director for bmi, said that they are [...]
