Leading UK air operator British Airways has won its latest High Court case against the unions after the court ruled that staff contract conditions had not been breached following changes to onboard conditions for employees.
Unite, the union representing the airline staff, has been in constant negotiations with BA over recent months, many of which have become acrimonious to say the least. The latest case stemmed from changes made to staff contracts in an effort by the embattled airline to reduce overheads in the face of ongoing economic instability. BA has defended the move aimed squarely at halting falling profit while [...]

A spokesman for the union, Len McCluskey, said that he wanted families to be able to plan their travel arrangements in confidence. British Airways attacked the union statement saying that it offered little comfort to travelers, as a strike [...]

Reports show that the union has reacted angrily to British Airways’ move to train its ground staff as cabin crew. This move by British Airways came out as the talks between the airline and Unite bosses broke down without any resolution to the ongoing dispute over contracts.
The Unite union has announced that it will re-ballot its members on Monday, January 25th on whether to strike or not. This makes the threat of an Easter walkout still very possible. The union thinks that the fear of a strike may make British Airways more likely to cave in to demands.
The voting is expected to take around a month to completely finish. That means that the strike action could start as of March 1st if the estimated 12,700 crew members that are affiliated with this union deem it necessary.
