According to several travel operators and opposition parties in the UK government, the recently deployed electronic border controls, ‘e-Borders’, are not reliable.
Ministers had earlier informed the public that the e-Borders system will check 95 per cent of passenger activities by the end of 2010, but ferry companies and Eurostar told Sky News that they have not agreed a deal with the UK Border Agency yet over the electronic screening system.
The UK Government informed that e-Borders is the country’s forefront to keep the country secured from terrorism and illegal immigration. The advanced system works by electronically checking the details of an [...]

New reports from Eurostar show that their total ticket sales in 2009 reached record highs. In fact, the company was able to record £675.5 million in sales. This is an increase of about 1.7 percent on 2008. This is a big deal since 2009 marked a very difficult year for the travel and tourism industry as a whole. Thus, for any company in this industry to be able to post record breaking sales is amazing.
The volume of travelers year on year increased by 1.2 percent to hit 9.2 million. These great numbers came despite a lot of the chaos that [...]

It now seems that Eurostar is expected to shell out some big money to 100,000 passengers who had problems with their Christmas travel plans due to breakdowns with the high speed cross Channel service. Right now reports suggest that Eurostar could be paying as much as £10 million to cover compensation.
It is already very likely that the money will be paid very soon, despite the fact that the official inquiry into the travel chaos is not due until the end of the month. The high speed rain operator went on to blame the breakdown of five of its trains [...]

Lately there have been a growing number of problems with trains getting caught in tunnels. Although travelers would like to hear the end of these stories, unfortunately, that is not going to happen anytime soon apparently. This is because yet another Eurostar train has been left stranded in the tunnel on its way from Brussels to London.
Eurostar confirmed this morning that the train, which left Brussels at 8:05am was due to arrive at London St Pancraas around 8:56am. However, the train had been delayed while crossing the channel. It is not yet known why the train stopped in the tunnel, [...]

Reports now show that a Eurostar train has just recently broken down inside the Channel Tunnel after suffering some bad traction problems due to the heavy snowfall that has been hitting the UK. A spokesman for Eurotunnel said a rescue engine has towed the train out of the tunnel.
The train had restarted its journey at 10:35am and arrived in Ashford, Kent shortly after. The train did not encounter any other problems after getting out of the tunnel. Another train, the train from Paris to London, has also gotten stuck for a similar time period outside the tunnel in France.

Many car hirers have been left stranded over Christmas in some of the worst weather the Northern Hemisphere has ever seen. Motorists in the UK were subject to sleeping in their cars in icy conditions due to thick snow blanketing the road, the Eurostar Cross Channel Service facing cancellations due to the bad weather that caused a backlog of up to 70,000 travellers left stranded.
Across most of North America, it was the same scenario as airports struggled with the additional number of passengers as well as the added trouble of clearing snow from the runways, as well as making it [...]

Thousands of stranded passengers just before Christmas and hundreds of holidays ruined has not apparently affected the standing of the Eurostar boss who oversaw the chaos. An estimated 100,000 people were caught out by the closures brought about by heating defects and cold weather.
Eurostar is expected to announce this week the appointment of CEO Nicolas Petrovic to the post of head of the company’s rail operations on January first where he will replace incumbent Richard Brown. Petrovic will not only have a new title but a six-figure increase in his salary with his new role paying around £400,000 per annum.
However, [...]

Lately there has been a big scramble by Eurostar passengers to find a way to get on the limited scheduled trains before Christmas. However, Eurostar has come forward and issued a statement saying that it will be running services throughout the day.
The train operator went on to note that it will continue running services the day before Christmas and is still confident that everyone that wishes to travel before Christmas will get the chance to do so. After a long three days of cancellations due to weather, Eurostar has finally been able to resume services between London and the Continent. Although this is great news for passengers, the bad news is that the service is still very limited.
On top of this, there is other bad news for passengers. Now that travel has restarted, there is a chaotic scene at St Pancras, as thousands waited in subzero temperatures in hopes of being able to catch the first high speed train out of the station since Friday. Almost 3,000 customers were waiting at 5am, some of them had been [...]

Apparently all of Eurostar’s services were suspended on Monday, December 21st due to problems. The company has also warned passengers that they may not be able to make it home for Christmas. Eurostar is urging all of its passengers that do not have to travel to change their travel dates or seek a refund. This way the passengers that do have to travel may be able to make it to their destination.
Eurostar has gone on to blame the disruption of services on the acute weather conditions in Northern France. The latest disruption follows the events that happened just last week, [...]
