The ferry Captain of the Tonga Ferry that sunk last week has made provocative comments blaming the incident on authorities. He claims he was pressured to using the boat that sank despite it being widely known to have problems.
Captain Maka tuputupu says that the incident on rusted loading ramps that allowed too much water onto the ship. He spoke out claiming that the Tongan government knew there had been issues with the ship taking on water and pushed for it to remain operational anyway.

A man was killed right near the terminal of the Edmonds Ferry Dock this week. His motorcycle went out of control and collided with a minivan. Precise causes as to why his motorcycle may have gone out of control and whether the minivan driver was somewhat to blame for the accident are currently under investigation.

Residents of Riverdale, New York have been expressing their support for ferry service in their area. While, a few residents have expressed concern about environment impact, support for ferries has still been overwhelming.
The city is looking at possible locations for ferry docks throughout the Bronx bureau and the rest of the city. It is making active efforts to collect public opinions from residents in all the areas.
Riverdale residents in particular feel that they have a need for ferries when commuting to lower Manhattan. The metro service does not get everyone to their destinations, residents claim.

A ferry carrying 79 people went down near the pacific island nation of Tonga. It is believed to have sunk 53 miles northeast of the Tongan capital, Nuku’alofa. It put out a mayday call and it had set off its distress beacon, but 26 passengers still remain un-accounted for.
The ferry was used for inter-island travel in the Pacific area. It ran regular routes through the Region. Some are already speculating on causes. Passengers of this route have reported that weather can often go bad very quickly in this part of the Pacific.

Two years ago four steel electric-class ferries were taken out of service in Washington state for safety reasons. This month they will be towed to Mexico and cut up for recycling.
The ferries are 82 years old. The first two, named Nisqually and Quinault will towed from Engle Harbor to Ensenada, Mexico this week. Their sister ships Klickitat and lllahee will follow within a couple of weeks.
The State of Washington managed to sell the boats in June to Eco Planet Recycling in California. They were paid $50 000 per boat. The boats were taken out of service in November of 2007, [...]

Hatton ferries were in danger of being shut down, so people in the community have set to pounding the pavement to raise money to keep them going. So far, they have been surprised by the success they have achieved. There have already been more than 75 donors and about 20-25 percent of the money needed to keep the ferries running in 2010 has been raised.

Two Washington police officers were placed on leave for allegedly doing something that apparently government workers have been doing regularly for many years; clubbing seagulls to death at ferry terminals.
The Seattle Times newspaper reported that federal wildlife agents have been routinely killing the birds at the ferry terminal for the past decade. They either gas them or shoot them with air rifles.
The assistant director of the US Department of Agriculture’s wildlife service program commented on the allegations. He stated that the birds are usually killed discreetly and quietly at night to avoid offending anyone.

Members of the crew on a New York ferry rescued a man from the Hudson River this week. It was said to be a great day for New York’s ferry staff as this crew got to put their training to good use and save this man in peril.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) of the United States will begin its three-week test today of a new explosives screening device for vehicles and people. The test will take place at the Port Jefferson Ferry Terminal. The device uses “backscatter imaging technology” to check cars trucks and people for explosives before they drive onto the Port Jefferson-Bridgeport Ferry.

The name on this state of the art twin hulled ferry is Hawaii Superferry, but the run down old cargo pier at Lambert’s Point Docks is a long from home for this island runner.
The boat is called and “Alakai”, and it one of two high-speed ferries that was owned by one of the many Hawaiian companies to recently file for bankruptcy. This boat arrived in Norfolk this past Tuesday. The second ferry will be due to arrive in the middle of next week according to Scott Schubart, the manager of the port for Norton Lilly International.
