A new advert claiming that a third runway at Heathrow will not make the airport noisier or dirtier has now been ruled misleading by the Advertising Standards Authority. They went on to claim that the ad was also misleading for claiming that the runway would not go ahead unless local air quality meets EU standards on concentration of nitrogen dioxide. This ad has now been placed in many papers by pro-Heathrow expansion groups and was published in the period before the government’s January 2009 decision to approve a third runway at the west London airport.

First impressions of the new Terminal 2 at Heathrow reveal Norman Foster at his mighty architectural best. Uncluttered, crisp, elegant spaces are combined with 10m windows keep the new building as free of artificial light as possible under an aerofoil shaped sweeping roof.
Foster’s visionary design will rank Heathrow, long an aesthetic and logistic nightmare, among the world’s best terminals.
Completion of the new terminal is forecast for 2019, a year which will likely see Heathrow almost unrecognisable from its current state, with upgrades slated for Terminals 3 and 4 along with an extension to the Richard Roger’s inspired Terminal 5. A [...]

Gatwick Airport could possibly see a second runway expansion rather than Stansted Airport or Heathrow Airport with secret plans being created by the companies who are bidding to purchase the second biggest airport in Britain. On Wednesday of last week, the Competition Commission supported the idea effectively, calling on the government to change their aviation policy. Their statement threatens to reveal state policy during a period when the Cabinet is having a dispute over building a 3rd runway at the Heathrow Airport.
If Gatwick Airport is to have an expansion, as many as 300 homes would be destroyed. [...]

The British Airports Authority and British Airways have decided that the London Heathrow Airport needs a third runway.  Willie Walsh, the chief executive of British Airways, said in a transport conference that the hub in London need another short runway and a mixed-mode operating system on the two runways that they already have to supply more space for take-offs and landings.  He says that the lack of extra space on the runway is what caused the global network at Heathrow to decrease from 227 destination spots in 1990 to only 180 now.  The decreasing cycle, he added, needs to be [...]
