Thomas Cook, a travel giant based in Peterborough, has continued making their mark as a major brand name, and it has been made official. Thomas Cook has become a Superbrand for the third year in a row, making them one of the top brand names in the United Kingdom. They have been announced as being a leading brand in the United Kingdom, as one of the Top 100 Superbrands for 2008, placing hundreds ahead of their closest competition in the tour operator and travel agent category. Thomas Cook, the second biggest group for leisure travel in the United Kingdom, having around 19,000 employees, has slipped into the 72nd place in the UK’s top 100. Thomson Holidays, Virgin Holidays, and First Choice on the other hand are ranked outside of the UK’s top 100 for the year.
Simon Carter, the Executive Director of Marketing at Thomas Cook in the United Kingdom and Ireland, said that they have been steadily improving their rank for the last 3 years, and now they are in the highest position ever, placing in the top 100. The best part is, he continued, that they are nearly 270 places ahead of their next tour competitor on the list. In fact, he added, in the whole survey of Superbrands, there are no other brands in first place that beat their closest competitor by as many positions as they have, which shows how ahead their brand is from their competition. He added further that their heritage as being the longest founded leisure travel company in the world plays a key part in their success, however, they continue to work hard at maintaining their status as a well known and respected travel brand, not only in the United Kingdom but worldwide too.
