Travelers who are on a budget following the credit crunch may not have to abandon their travel overseas just yet, because the biggest tour operator in the United Kingdom is offering a wide variety of foreign holidays for only 2 pounds per night for a studio apartment or double room in destinations which include Greece and Turkey. The deal’s catch is that a few of the rooms are only available for one night at a time in October, so some travelers who are booking a room for a week may have to pay more for any additional nights after their first. However, there are still some deals left that include a week-long holiday. The cost is for a studio or one-bedroom apartment in a 2-star or 3-star hotel, without food included. Destinations for this deal include many in the Greek Islands, like Thassos, Minorca, Kefalonia, and the Turquoise Coast of Turkey.
A Thomson Holidays spokesman said that they occasionally run marketing initiatives that target promoting availability in small pockets, and this is not to be interpreted as a reflection from the current conditions of the economy. He continued in saying that as they noted in their most recently released results that Thomson Holidays has not witnessed any deterioration in the sentiment of customers’ booking patterns. Frances Tuke, an Association of British Travel Agents spokesman, said that the prices are great for people who are willing to travel during off-peak holiday months. Tuke continued saying that Turkey has become a popular market during the year due its location outside of the Eurozone, which has made British travelers more familiar with it. In spite of the downturn of the economy, it appears that a lot of people are not ready to give up going on a holiday, he added, however, more of them are more inclined to save money on other things.
