High winds and heavy rainfall has caused rail disruption in Lancashire as West Coast Main Line services have been delayed by flooding in Preston and Lancaster. Floods have also caused problems for traffic near Lancaster on the A6 and M6. A flood warning has been issued by the Environment Agency at Galgate on the River Conder.

The severe weather has also caused electricity supplies to be affected for around 1,800 customers as a power line was knocked out in Clitheroe. According to Electricity North West, the power has been restored to most customers and engineers are currently dealing with the issue.

On Tuesday morning, Ashton Road in Lancaster was blocked by a fallen tree, but the problem has now been resolved. According to a Network Rail spokesman, flooding caused problems for West Coast Main Line services near Garstang and near Penrith in Cumbria. Speed restrictions were also imposed on services travelling north near Grayrigg. Although it has now been reopened, the line running in both directions at Woodacre had to be closed for around two hours.

High winds have meant that Steam Packet services to and from the Isle of Man experienced some delays. Sailings to Liverpool from the island were cancelled and the Douglas service was delayed by around an hour.

Residents close to the River Conder have reported that nearby fields have been flooded with one homeowner describing how the waters had come up to the wall of her house. She said that her cellar was close to flooding and that she was attempting to rescue items of sentimental value.
