A brand new Travelodge hotel may be making its way to Newbury town center. This news comes in after Travelodge put in an application earlier this month to turn the former Texaco garage on London Road into a new hotel.

An earlier application was submitted back in 2007 by the owners of TA Fisher Ltd, to turn the site into a residential and commercial site. However, the idea had been shelved in favour of high rise hotels and some shops.

TA Fisher managing director, John Fisher, said that Travelodge was very quick in recognizing the importance of that central location. He says that if the application is approved, it will bring back almost immediate redevelopment to that area. The Travelodge hotel is expected to have 67 rooms. However, one problem could be the fact that there is only room for 12 parking spaces.

The application goes on to say that this new development would be a big improvement over the unattractive petrol station that is currently sitting in that spot, and would greatly enhance the appearance of that area. As of right now a hand car wash company has leased the site for 12 months after the garage closed.

Steve Tyler, the development manager for Travelodge, said that they are delighted to have been able to secure this excellent location. It has been noted that this spot is the perfect place for a British holiday. It would also be a great place for business travelers to stay when they are in town for business, due to the location of the spot.
