Next year has been forecasted to bring continued challenges to millions of jobless people throughout the UK.

The news comes after a recent study by the TUC suggested that there at least 1,000 people from each of the 232 local authorities across the UK were still seeking jobseeking benefits. It also said that many Britons would be celebrating their second and third consecutive Christmases unemployed.

TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said that thousands of families would face a difficult holiday season amid continued difficult conditions in the UK economy. He added that there would likely be further redundancies over the next year as massive cuts on the public sector continue to take their toll. He also said that private sector jobs would also remain at risk in 2011.

Northern Ireland took the biggest hit in 2010, as the unemployment rate rose by 3.2% from just under 10,000 to over 14,000.  Greater London has also suffered heavy losses amid the bleak conditions, as Kensington, Sutton, Hackney and Chelsea all saw significant redundancies in the past 12 months.

The findings come after a recent survey suggested that young people have been hit heavily over the recession. Figures showed that as many as 20% of UK citizens between ranging from 16 to 22 years of age cannot find suitable employment.
