Two people were killed in England’s southwest on Wednesday as a bus overturned on treacherously icy roads. 47 people were injured in the tragedy as all across the UK travel was affected by the miserable weather.
The accident with the bus occurred after it rolled on its way back from a viewing visit of Christmas lights. The bus slid off the road before colliding with a tree and turning to its side as it ended through a hedgerow according to police reports.
Elsewhere across Britain, chaos ensued at many major travel hubs with cancellations and delays enforced far and wide. In Scotland at Prestwick Airport near Glasgow a Ryanair plane skidded off the runway after touching down. Fortunately there were no major injuries and all passengers were removed safely.
At Manchester and London Airports the weather caused the cancellation of dozens of scheduled flights with all passengers being urged to consult with their carrier before embarking to the airport.
Meanwhile, the ongoing issues with heating on the Eurostar are slowly being rectified after days of no services and thousands left stranded. Some trains are managing to now get through although the operator has warned that restricted timetables will continue.
In addition, worse news from the Royal Mail that some online shopping would not make it in time for Christmas causing celebration plans to be thrown into chaos for many as presents and foodstuffs are delayed.
