Men have dominated the results of the latest survey about British drivers abroad. A new study by leading car hire company Avis has found that when it comes to getting behind the wheel in a foreign country, it is a man’s world, with 94 per cent of British males stating categorically that they wish to be in control. This was compared to just 38 per cent of women saying the same thing.

The biggest fear facing any driver while on holiday was that of getting lost, with both sexes losing their way as often as each other. Sixry-two per cent of drivers – both male and female – admitted they had gotten lost whilst driving abroad, with 38 per cent of women and 36 per cent of men adding that roadside instructions confused them.

As imagined, more men crash while abroad, with 10 per cent of males experiencing an accident overseas as opposed to just three per cent of women. Most worryingly, 21 per cent of males and 18 per cent of females have admitted to driving down the wrong side of the road.

Women appear to be more careful when it comes to the little things as well, as just one in 33 said they had run out of petrol compared to one in 20 men owning up to not filling up. However, the ladies were apparently less sure about exactly what to fill up on, with one in 50 saying that had put the wrong fuel into their vehicle.
