Drivers across Britain can soon be behind the wheel of a new generation in motoring technology.
Motorists in the UK will be able to order the Nissan Leaf, the highly-praised electric vehicle which also comes with a cash back deal from the government.
The Nissan Leaf order bank officially opened on September 1, and in that time customers have been steering increasingly towards the company’s reservation website where an online sign-up can be completed. The interest in the vehicle has been massive; particularly with the increased cost of fuel, insurance and car maintenance all combining to hit traditional car drivers hard in the pocket.
Deliveries of the first Nissan Leafs will begin in March, with the Japanese-built vehicle costing £23,990, including the £5,000 discount offer for electric vehicles by the government. Called a milestone in the history of Nissan by managing director of Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd, Paul Willcox, the company is the first manufacturer to provide an affordable and credible electric car to the mass motoring market they claim.
Britain will follow Japan and the US in being the first to drive the Nissan Leaf, with these countries set to debut the iconic vehicle over the course of this month, while Ireland will join Portugal in accessing the vehicle next year.
Despite the fact that the Nissan Leaf not yet been officially launched, it managed to pick up the coveted 2010 Auto Express New Car Awards Special Award last month. In addition to its environmentally friendly electric driving program, it also boasts regenerative breaking, optional solar panel for the spoiler and LED headlight bulbs among a host of green technology.
