The recent state visit of South African President Jacob Zuma to Britain seems to be yielding positive effects for the nation. Zuma, together with a dozen of his cabinet ministers and 200 more people from the business sector, came to Britain not only for economic interests but also to promote the upcoming World Cup event – to be held at the African country.

South Africa will host the soccer event in three months time and thousands of soccer fans are expected to flock the nation. With the sudden influx of visitors to witness the sports event, warnings are now out that about 40,000 prostitutes will be coming to South Africa as well. This situation could bring health disaster for South Africa, if necessary precautions are not quickly imposed in the country.

A report today states that British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has agreed to ship 42 million condoms to South Africa in aid for the impending disaster.

South Africa is considered as an AIDS-prone country and figures are on the rise yearly. Statistics reveals that about 450 million condoms are being distributed in the country yearly, but AIDS transmission rate is still climbing – with an estimated 5.7 million South Africans are now with HIV.

There are about 16 million sexually active men in the southern African country. Figures show that one out of five adults in the country is suffering from AIDS. Moreover, every day, there are about 1,400 new HIV cases and 1,000 deaths in South Africa due to AIDS or its complications.
