Canadian carrier WestJet announced on Wednesday that it has partnered up with UK global carrier British Airways.

The agreement will allow BA passengers to connect to WestJet domestic routes. The agreement marks one of WestJet’s first excursions outside of its budget-carrier foundation, as it has recently sought new potential revenue from a variety of sources.

The deal, which has been dubbed an ‘inbound passenger’ arrangement, will enable passengers flying on British Airways to seamlessly connect to WestJet’s network of North American flights.

Robert Palmer, spokesman for WestJet, confirmed that the deal had indeed gone through, however he added that seats combining the two carriers wouldn’t be available until sometime next year.

According to Chris Murray, an analyst from PI Financial Corp, the two carriers haven’t deemed the agreement to be material. He added that he was told by WestJet that the deal wasn’t to be disclosed in order to give British Airways time to arrange a marketing scheme and create a proper press release.

He added that interline agreements such as this aren’t usually material and that the Calgary-based carrier wouldn’t necessarily issue its own press release. He also added that the deal is likely to give WestJet’s stock a boost.
