Freezing temperatures and heavy snow across the whole of Scotland have cause chaos among the country’s roadways and transportation links.

Several bus routes and rail schedules have been disrupted as whiteout conditions were reported in several areas. Roadways were also crippled by whiteouts, including the vital A9 road linking Dunblane and Perth.

National Express busses announced on Sunday evening that all services leaving from the Dundee city centre would be suspended at least until Monday morning.

On Sunday night, the M8 was closed down to a single lane due to a jacknifed vehicle whilst other roadways saw similar issues.

The A82 saw up to 200 stranded vehicles on Sunday along the Loch Lomond west coast before it was closed to additional traffic. The A83 was also closed shortly thereafter.

Airports at both Glasgow and Edinburgh saw disruptions as flights were suspended for some time due to poor visibility.

Police have urged motorists to forego all unnecessary travel whilst a severe weather warning had been issued by the Met Office forecasting five to 15cm of snowfall across Scotland.
