There is an ongoing global trend of travel booking increasingly being made online. In 2009 two thirds of all booking were either influenced by the internet or actually made online. An interesting trend of internet bookings is that women and the elderly (55+) are leading the charge. In the last two years the percentage of bookings that seniors make online has gone up by five percent.
With the online travel industry being massively successful and more so each year, it is fascinating and significant to discover the demographic roots of this rise. What shared tendencies and traits do these people have as they dig through the Internet and arrange vacations and business trips for their families and colleagues?
More than fifty percent of the online travel bookings made last year were made by women. Only two years ago men were leading women by five percent in online travel bookings made. It is speculated that this trend will continue to move further towards female online bookings right into 2011.
Possible reasons for this include the growing salaries of women in comparison their male counterparts as society has worked towards closing the gap of inequalities. Another factor is that females are closing the gap of access to new technologies. This is also the case in terms of elderly travel bookers.
