Abidos is a small commune that is located on the Pyrenees-Atlantique department of France. Just like the rest of the region, its culture is largely influenced by the Basques and Catalan. The commune may not be considered a travel destination in itself but it is a suitable base for exploring the rest of the department.

The easiest way to get around the area is by arranging for cheap car hire in Abidos. From there, visitors can drive to the east to the town of Pau about 30 minutes from the commune. Notable attractions in the area include the Le Chateau de Pau where Henry IV of France was born. This is the main historic landmark in town, offering hourly guided tours. Just outside the gates of the chateau area number of al fresco restaurants where visitors can enjoy excellent meals at affordable prices.

From there, visitors can continue their tour of the Pyrenees-Atlantique department with a drive to Bayonne using a car hire in Abidos. From Abidos, the town is about an hour's drive further east and features an old town and a cathedral that make for an interesting walk.

Further out, they can also head to the town of Biarritz further east using a car rental in Abidos. The town is famous for its coast and great beaches. It also has a Russian Orthodox Church and a number of places of interest such as a Museum of Asian Art and an aquarium. The Central Market sells a variety of produce and interesting merchandise while restaurants and cafes can be found mostly at the town centre.
