Location information for Cargese

Cargese is a small Corsican village that is best known for its picturesque harbour as well as the Cargese Institute for Physics which hosts regular conferences and summer workshops. The town is often overlooked as a tourist destination but because it is close to other more popular travel spots in the region, many consider it a suitable travel base.

The village is quite compact so there's no need to use a car hire in Cargese to get around. For venturing outside the town, however, travellers will find driving as the best mode of transport. Within Cargese, they can find a Greek Orthodox and a Roman Catholic Church that draw crowds of tourists every year. The harbour is also worth a visit. Around the harbour, tourists will find an assortment of restaurants that serve seafood and local delicacies.

From there, travellers can head out to the town of Ajaccio which is located to the south of Cargese. Places of interest in the area include the citadel which terminates at the Citadel Jetty. To the southwest, they can find Place Bonaparte and the house where Napoleon Bonaparte was born. Ajaccio Cathedral and the Genoese towers of Capu di Fenu, Castelluchju and Parata are also worth a drive using a car rental in Cargese.

Further out, visitors can also drive up to Calvi with a cheap car hire in Cargese. This is another popular travel spot in the region, offering such attractions as an old town, a citadel and the pink church called L'Eglise Santa Maria.
