Chaumont Rail Station is considered the main entry point into the capital city of the Haute-Marne department of eastern France. It is served by regular and fast trains coming from Paris and other major cities in the country as well as those that go around the region. This makes it an ideal travel base for those looking to go on excursions around the area. The good thing about staying in Chaumont is that one is within just an hour's drive from notable travel destinations in the region. Driving to the west, for instance, will take them to the city of Troyes, where they will find interesting attractions such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Vauluisant Museum and the Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul Cathedral. The old town area with its 16th century half-timbered houses is also accessible using a car hire at the Chaumont Rail Station.

Another alternative is to head south to the city known for its mustard, Dijon. The university town is also famous for such landmarks as the Ducal Palace, the Well of Moses, Palais de Justic and the Musée des Beaux Arts.

Further up north is the capital city of Reims. Travel time is about two hours using a cheap car hire at the Chaumont Rail Station.
