CompareCarHire.co.uk compares the prices of well-known car hire companies in Germany, including the following location: Parchim International Airport
Parchim Airport is set in the middle of a large industrial estate in northeastern Germany, exactly in the centre of Europe and equidistant from Berlin and Hamburg. The facility was once an Air Force base. Since 2009, it has operated scheduled cargo flights to destinations across Europe via Air Cargo Germany as well as general aviation flights. Car hire in Parchim Airport can be arranged on request.
Facilities at the airport include a bonded warehouse for incoming cargo, import and export customs facilities, pilot training schools, aircraft maintenance and storage, and transshipping facilities for cargo. The adjacent business park provides supplementary services.
The former East German town of Parchim, located close to the industrial park and airport, has a long history but little to attract visitors apart from a plain, red-brick town hall and several large churches of indeterminable age. Parchim district includes agricultural countryside with several lakes which are easily accessed with car rental in Parchim Airport. Its eastern borders lie along the Muritz Lakeland region. Mecklenburg Lake District and the Baltic Sea coastline are within easy reach with car hire.
The climate here is similar to most of central and northern Germany, with warm summers and cool winters that see temperatures drop from around November to lows of below freezing in January and snow a frequent occurrence. Rainfall is normal for the region, with July and December the wettest months. June through August is the peak season for tourism.
Motorists visiting anywhere in former East Germany should remember that excellent roads such as autobahns are rarer here than in West Germany. Although things have improved since reunification, many areas are still not up to standard. Regardless, foreign drivers will encounter few problems on the road here as routes are well signed. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.
