Car rental location Sligo Airport

Location information for Sligo Airport

Although Sligo Airport doesn't have any passenger connections to other cities, it is nonetheless an important air facility serving the Irish town of the same name. It is a minute regional airport that stands as the home base of the Irish Coastguard. Passenger flights ceased to operate here in July 2011. Car hire in Sligo Airport still services patrons, however.

Sligo Airport facilities

The airport is only small and therefore has limited facilities. There is an airport tower on site along with a small terminal. There is one asphalt runway serving the airport, which measures about 1,200 metres in length. A helicopter operates at the airport. Car rental in Sligo Airport can also be found within the single terminal building.

Sligo Airport excursions

The airport is situated only eight kilometers from the town of Sligo. Most people come to the airport for its skydiving facilities or coast guard training services. Around the town are several ancient Neolithic sites to be discovered, such as those at Carrowmore, and the beaches of Rosses Point are close by.

Best time to visit

Try to avoid visiting in the winter months, as they are known to be damp, cold and grey. Rainfall is high at this time while temperatures fall to below 10°C.

Even though rainfall is experienced all year long, the summer months are the most pleasant, with the mercury occasionally reaching the comfortable heights of 22°C.
