Sicily is an island located just off the coast of Italy. Sicily has more than one airport and Italy has several, but the Catania Airport is one of the busiest. This called for expansion once again. Today the airport is even busier. The airport is so busy it recently added a new terminal to help accommodate the six million passengers using the airport. This terminal features added gates and loading bridges to enhance the airport's existing facilities. This project was completed in May of 2007. Even with the recent additions, future plans include expanding the new terminal to make even more space for its growing base of travelers. The expansion needs to take into consideration the rapid expansion of the past. Future plans need to address the possibility of unexpected increase in the number of passengers using the airport in the years to come.

Airport transportation is in abundance at Catania airport; there is a shuttle buss service, a train service that runs into the centre of Catania and taxi's available from outside the terminal.
